Early Years School - Overview

The Early Years School at Kids At Heart International School is guided by the British Association for Early Childhood Development framework and the Pearson EYS curriculum. This curriculum provides a broad understanding of how young children grow, learn, and develop essential skills.

At this stage, learners are supported in building foundational competencies in reading, writing, and number concepts. Assessment is carried out continuously throughout the term through observation, allowing practitioners to monitor each child’s progress closely.

Teachers regularly review learners’ development and share their observations with parents. Families meet with practitioners twice each term—at mid-term and at the end of the term—to discuss their child’s growth and learning journey.

We believe that smaller class sizes enable deeper, more meaningful learning experiences. With a maximum of 16 students per class, our teachers can understand each child’s unique learning style and work closely with families to support their development.

Every Early Years class is led by a trained teacher and supported by a teaching assistant. In addition, nannies or carers are available to provide extra support and ensure that our youngest learners are well cared for throughout the school day.

Early Years School - Curriculum

The Early Years School (EYS) curriculum is built around five key areas of learning and development, providing a well-rounded foundation for every child.

Physical Literacy

This area offers children opportunities to be active and engaged while developing coordination and movement skills. Through creative movement, including dance, rhythm, performance, and body awareness, learners build confidence and enjoy positive physical activity experiences. The programme strengthens essential motor skills such as running, wheeling, throwing, catching, and balancing, gradually progressing into more advanced movement patterns and early sports skills.

Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED)

PSED supports learners in developing a strong sense of self and positive relationships with others. Children learn to manage their emotions, show respect, collaborate with peers, and develop confidence in social settings.

Literacy Development

Children are introduced to linking sounds and letters, laying the foundation for early reading and writing. They are immersed in a rich language environment designed to enhance speaking, listening, and expressive skills across a variety of contexts.

Numeracy Development

Learners explore counting, number recognition, and basic calculations such as simple addition and subtraction. They also gain an understanding of shapes, space, and measurement through hands-on activities and exploration.

Understanding the World

This area encourages children to explore, observe, and investigate their environment. Through meaningful experiences, learners develop an understanding of people, places, technology, and the natural world around them.

We believe that small class sizes create the best learning environment for young children. Smaller groups also help us build strong relationships with families and create a warm, supportive partnership between home and school. Each EYS class is led by a trained teacher and supported by a teaching assistant. Additionally, nannies or carers are present to provide extra assistance and ensure the well-being of our young learners throughout the day.

Requirements
